Cancer Research Interest
- Disease Site Focus: No Specific Disease Site, Thoracic/ Lung
- Research Focus Area: Prevention
- Type of Research: Population Sciences
- Research Keywords: tobacco control
- Research Interest Statement: I am currently the PI or Co-I on three projects: K01, an NSF grant (Co-I), and a grant from the Arkansas Attorney General's office (similar to an R21). As a part of my K01, I'm becoming an expert in tobacco control laws and learning how to leverage social media data to learn about and prevent the exposure to tobacco related content to those under the minimum legal sales age. For the NSF grant, we are training visual AI models to detect nicotine addiction displayed on social media in an effort to educate children, parents, and lawmakers about the risks of exposure to tobacco-related content on social media. Lastly, the AG grant uses a youth action participatory research approach that engages youth as equal researchers who explore messages disseminated about emerging tobacco products by social media influences in order to inform the future development of prevention messages for youth and young adults. Findings from this two-year study is intended to support an R01 application that will develop, implement, and evaluate a tobacco prevention campaign for rural youth using social media influencers.
