- Research Interest Statement: Dr. Samanta is radiation oncologist and assistant professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Dr. Samanta joined the UAMS team after completing a residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Maryland, and Maryland Proton Treatment Center. Prior to this residency training, he also completed a residency training in radiation oncology at CMC Vellore, India one of the premium medical institutions in India. During his residency training at Maryland he received the outstanding clinical research award and also the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) award for his outstanding research. Dr Samanta joined as faculty and assistant professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He is also the director of radiation oncology at the UAMS Baptist North Little joint venture clinic. He is also one of the ‘Proton lead’ physician in the group and his responsibilities involve reviewing proton appropriate cases, reviewing proton radiation plans and overview proton work flow. He also leads the Gyn brachytherapy services and has expanded the brachytherapy treatment using the new state of art HYBRID brachytherapy devices for gynecological cancer. This brachytherapy program now receives referral for complex and interstitial treatment from providers across the entire state of Arkansas. Dr Samanta is also assistant Program Director for radiation Oncology medical residency program and works very closely with residents for their education and training as well as for overall program growth and recruitment process. He also received the ARRO educator award in 2023 for mentoring residents in the department. Dr Samanta has also participated in various research projects that has led to multiple posters, oral abstracts as well peer reviewed publications. He was also invited for multiple lectures on his expertise in proton therapy for head and neck cancer.
