Cancer Research Interest
- Disease Site Focus: Gynecology
- Research Focus Area: Treatment
- Type of Research: Translational
- Research Keywords: estrogen, ovarian cancer, hereditary cancer, ethics, clinical trials
- Research Interest Statement: I am a Professor and Division Chief of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. My lab research included investigation of the connection between estrogen and the BRCA double strand break DNA repair pathway, as well as the role of estrogen in the growth and metastasis of ovarian cancer. This line of investigation was augmented by our development of a fluorescent intraabdominal mouse model of ovarian cancer. Extended family obligations directed my career away from bench science and towards more clinical investigation. My clinical practice as a gynecologic oncologist includes the treatment of women with gynecologic malignancies and genetic predisposition to cancer. I perform surgery, both traditional and minimally invasive; administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy and small molecule inhibitors; as well as contribute to the clinical trial enterprise as a Principal Investigator and Sub-Investigator in our Division portfolio. As my career path has matured into more administrative roles, I continue to serve as a content consultant for gynecologic cancers, steroid hormone interactions, menopause and development of early detection testing for ovarian cancer. I currently am the PI on the OvaPrint trial, which is a prospective validation of our early serum cell free DNA ovarian cancer detection trial. In addition, I am the site PI for the Giredestrant endometrial cancer trial, which is a phase II trial of a novel estrogen antagonist in low grade endometrial cancer.
