Cancer Research Interest
- Disease Site Focus: GI, Breast
- Research Focus Area: Prevention, Informatics, Detection
- Type of Research: Population Sciences
- Research Keywords: Epigenetics, Epidemiology
- Research Interest Statement: My research goals are to a) examine demographic and social determinants to comprehensively understand cancer risk and survival outcomes in various cancer types using population-based and clinical data sources; b) Identify epigenetic markers linked to cancer development and increased cancer risk during crucial developmental stages—from pre-conception to adolescence; and c) examine the vertical transmission of these markers across generations. While these research activities are relevant to many types of cancer, I am especially interested in EO-CRC given its increasing incidence and relevance for earlier-life exposures. I aim to develop a research program merging traditional epidemiology with epigenetics and identify novel biomarkers across the cancer prevention and control continuum to uncover early epigenetic changes driving cancer and its outcomes. My research in cancer epigenetics will drive impactful preventive and therapeutic interventions designed to reduce the cancer burden.
