Cancer Research Interest
- Disease Site Focus: No Specific Disease Site, Pediatric Oncology, Thoracic/ Lung
- Research Focus Area: Prevention, Health Disparities
- Type of Research: Population Sciences, Translational
- Research Keywords: pediatric tobacco use; pediatric environmental tobacco exposure; pediatric psychology
- Research Interest Statement: I am a pediatric psychologist dedicated to cancer prevention and control at the child and family levels. Overall, my research program focused on identifying tobacco-related inequities and reducing active and passive tobacco and cannabis exposure among children and families, with a specific focus on historically marginalized families and youth with medical conditions (youth with asthma; youth with cancer). I also conduct research on behavioral and psychosocial functioning among youth with medical conditions, including research related to COVID-19. I just started at UAMS on September 1, 2022; therefore, I am still in the process of setting up my research program at UAMS. Prior to this appointment, I was an Assistant Professor at Oklahoma State University, a Member of the Center for Pediatric Psychology, and an Affiliate Member of the Stephenson Cancer Center at The University of Oklahoma Sciences Center. As a new UAMS faculty member, I plan to continue to publish using previously collected data, conduct pilot research at UAMS, and secure internal and external grant funding, all in the context of reducing tobacco and cannabis exposure among children. I believe that my research program aligns well with the mission of the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, and I look forward to conducting interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research to help reduce cancer disparities across generations.
