Cancer Research Interest
- Disease Site Focus: No Specific Disease Site
- Research Focus Area: Health Disparities, Prevention
- Type of Research: Population Sciences
- Research Keywords: epidemiology, tobacco, substance use, public health, disparities
- Research Interest Statement: My primary research interests include investigating the role of tobacco product characteristics (i.e., flavors, product type) and social-environmental and psychosocial factors as contributors to tobacco use and cancer and tobacco-related health disparities among socially disadvantaged groups. I often combine quantitative and qualitative epidemiologic methods and I aim to use my research to inform regulations and technology-supported observational studies and interventions to increase successful smoking cessation and reduce cancer and tobacco disparities among populations disproportionately burdened by tobacco such as African Americans, rural, and socioeconomically disadvantaged populations. My research also extends to other factors that contribute to tobacco use and health disparities including poor mental health, non-tobacco substance use (i.e., marijuana, alcohol), and access to cancer screening.
