Cancer Research Interest
- Disease Site Focus: Head and Neck, Breast, Multiple Myeloma, Gynecology
- Research Focus Area: Health Disparities, Prevention, Treatment, Detection
- Type of Research: Clinical, Population Sciences
- Research Keywords: psychosocial oncology, quality-of-life, patient-reported outcomes, survivorship, heatlh disparities, screening and detection
- Research Interest Statement: My research has focused on psychosocial oncology. As director of the Behavioral Medicine division research lab at the cancer institute, I have served as principal investigator on a large series of projects regarding quality-of-life outcomes and survivorship, as well as development of patient-reported outcome measures, and interventions for psychosocial morbidity. Other interests have included health disparities in cancer screening and prevention. I have been particularly interested in psychosocial factors associated with risk or resilience for patients with diverse malignancies. Our programmatic investigations in these areas have been widely recognized (including work at the forefront of research regarding religious involvement and health outcomes in oncology). Most of these projects have been propelled by interdisciplinary teams at UAMS or have involved national or international collaborations with other investigators.
